CORONAVIRUS: GHANA'S COVID-19 CASES RISES TO OVER 80K

Information released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) as of Sunday, February 21, 2021 estimate that the confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Ghana has balloon to over 80,000. This has been updated after recording another 598 positive cases on the pandemic with 577 recorded deaths in the country. Currently, Ghana's total covid-19 cases officially stands at 80,253 leaving 6,658 persons in critical conditions whiles discharged patients accelerates to 73,018. BREAKING: DEPUTY CLERK OF PARLIAMENT CONFIRMED DEAD.

Report reaching the public indicates that Deputy clerk of Ghana's parliament, Robert Apodolla is confirmed dead after a short ailment on Friday, February 19, 2021. The deceased is respected by MPs in Ghana's legislature due to the advanced know of Parliamentary rules and procedures vested in him. Mr. Robert Apodolla had the experience of working with all past speakers of parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, and until his demise was a member of the Society of clerks-at-the-table in the Commonwealth parliaments.  His sudden death was announced by the former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Hon. CRIME SCENE: POLICE STABS CO-TENANT TO DEATH

A Community Protection Assistant (Community Police) is in the grips of Police at Dunkwa Offin in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality for stabbing a co-tenant over disagreement relating to the sharing of electricity bills.  According to reports from the local media, the Community Police whose name was given as Owusu Boateng engaged Collins Dorman the victim in fisticuffs for failing to pay his electricity which has been in arrears for a very long time. Owusu Boateng who was enraged is said to have reached for a knife from his pocket and stabbed Collins Dorman in the chest with blood oozing out profusely from the stab wound which led to his eventual death. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at St. Mikes Hospital Mortuary as police continues with investigations into the matter. The Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms, Thomas Kusi Boafo has advised Ghanaians to obey the health protocols regarding COVID-19 to prevent another lockdown in the country. The Accra based Ofaakor Circuit Court has ordered Ghanaian comedian Benson Nana yaw Oduro Boateng, publicly known as "Funny Face" to the Psychiatric hospital for 14 days, explaining that he does not sound normal. His Lordship Ebenezer Osei Darko who supervised and presided on the case ordered the Ghana Police to send the "Cow and Chicken" star to Accra Psychiatric Hospital claiming he has mental illness which he believes it might be in relation with depression. The Central Regional Police PRO, DSP Irene Serwah Oppong stated that Benson Nyarko the Ghanaian Comedian has reportedly discharged firearms unlawfully in a Pub prior to the above feed. But according to Funny Face through an aggressive investigation conducted, the mother of his baby, Venessa pulled and projected a weapon (knife) on him and he resorted to firing warning shorts to ward off the attack.

FOOTBALL FANS DEPRIVED FROM ENTERING THE STADIUM

The Executive council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has placed a strict ban on it's fans from participating in the football activities at the stadium for four weeks, starting from today, February 13, 2021. This ban, by (GFA) is to help the president, in collaboration with his citizens fight against the brisk spread of the novel Coronavirus in Ghana. The council, has therefore been entreated to train stewards on the appropriate use of PPE's among footballers and their officials at the various stadia whiles fans are strictly restricted.

Report reaching the general public by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) indicates that Ghana has recorded 554 new covid-19 cases with 12 deaths as of Thursday, February 11, 2021. The covid-19 active cases in Ghana has inflated to 6,948 with 113 patients in severe situation whiles 29 others are in critical condition. All the recorded cases, when accumulated, sums up to 73,557 and out of the above recorded figures, 66,115 persons have recovered and successfully discharged. Below is the regional distribution/breakdown of the covid-19 case in Ghana. CORONAVIRUS: MP CALLS FOR RE-CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS AND CHURCHES.

The papable member of parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has ordered for the closure of schools and churches following the high inflation rate of covid-19 cases in the country. This he said, will help curb the brisk spread of the Coronavirus.  Many institutions, in collaboration with child rights activists, have called on the government to shut down schools after recording unbearable number of covid-19 cases in some schools especially among children. Meanwhile, the Director-General of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye at a press conference on Monday, February 8, 2021 disclosed that, for about 146 school children have contacted the novel virus but are undergoing medical treatment and are doing well. As of Monday, February 8, 2021, the confirmed cases in Ghana stands at 1,560.

ELECTION PETITION: JOHN MAHAMA FILES ANOTHER APPLICATION AGAINST 2020 ELECTIONS

Petitioner in the ongoing election petition hearing, John Mahama, has filed an application seeking to re-open his case on Tuesday, February 11, 2021. Counsel for the petitioner had closed his case, expecting that respondents will call a witness based on a witness statement they had filed at the commencement of the hearing. The Respondents’ petition was objected to by petitioner’s counsel who argued that once the respondent had filed a statement, she had elected to be a witness in the case but the Supreme Court in it's ruling has dismissed the motion, ruling that the EC chairperson, Jean Mensah cannot be compelled to mount the witness box. Meanwhile, the lead Counsel for the Petitioner, Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, has filed a subpoena to compel Madam Mensa to mount the witness box. The SC then called for written arguments from the lawyers of both sides which were filed subsequently. The motion will be heard on Monday, January 15, 2021, and if granted, Madam Mensa will be expected to testify
